Job Description

Our client is seeking a Lead Business Case Writer to join their team in Wellington. As a key member of the EPMO Leadership Team, you will establish a centre of excellence for business case development. You will lead a small team of analysis and business case writing professionals, developing pragmatic, easy-to-use business case resources and guidance materials. Your high-quality, evidence-based business cases will support informed decision-making across the organisation.

What you'll do:

As the Lead Business Case Writer, your role will be pivotal in shaping the future direction of our client's investment strategies. You will be responsible for establishing a centre of excellence for business case development, leading a small team of professionals to deliver high-quality, evidence-based business cases. Your work will directly influence decision-making processes across the organisation. In addition to this, you will build and maintain relationships across the organisation, ensuring alignment between strategic objectives and investment decisions.

  • Establishing a centre of excellence for business case development
  • Leading and working closely with a team of two analysis and business case writing professionals
  • Developing pragmatic, easy-to-use business case resources and guidance materials
  • Delivering high-quality, evidence-based and context-specific business cases for significant investments
  • Supporting informed decision making across the organisation
  • Building and maintaining relationships across the organisation


What you bring:

As the ideal candidate for the Lead Business Case Writer role, you bring extensive experience in business analysis and business case writing, preferably within the public sector. Your proven people management skills have been honed through years of leadership roles. You possess an in-depth understanding of government machinery including Treasury and Cabinet business case best practices. Your experience spans both large and small scale asset and capability investments. You are comfortable engaging with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels, including executive level.

  • Extensive business analysis and business case writing experience preferably within the public sector
  • Proven people management experience
  • In-depth working knowledge of machinery of government including Treasury and Cabinet business case best practice
  • Experience working with large and small scale asset and capability investments
  • Demonstrable experience in providing high quality advice in a range of situations
  • Comfortable engaging with a wide range of stakeholders including at an executive level
