Over the last couple of years mana whenua, Māori and the Council have collectively developed the Tūpiki Ora Māori Strategy and together we are committed to nurturing the wellbeing of our community.
Embedded within Mataaho Aronui, this position offers you the opportunity to join us to realise our vision to see everyone in our city thrive, and to create the future for our mokopuna. Hear Karepa Wall, our Tātai Heke Māori Chief Māori Officer and other members of iwi talk about their shared ambitions in this video.
Together we move forward in the way intended with our Tākai Here Partnership Agreement and now is the time for you to join us.
Te tūranga / The role
This is a key leadership role managing the Tukutuku Māori team, leading strategic outcomes for Māori. This role works closely with our Amotaketake to strategically advance our partnership with Iwi, while you lead to nurture and maintain wide networks with Māori Organisations, Central Government, Agencies, and NGO's, to achieve positive Māori outcomes.
This role is integral in creating, developing, and providing strategic advice and guidance across all of our Council wide strategies, and programmes of work, and you will be instrumental in our monitoring and evaluation along with the ongoing development of the Tūpiki Ora Māori Strategy.
You will leverage your strong leadership skills to empower your tīma to achieve required outcomes, viewing success as a united effort, and will sit comfortably within the Mataaho Aronui leadership tīma as a collaborator who operates from a shared values base.
Nō te Tātai Heke Māori / Your leader:
Karepa Wall leads Mataaho Aronui with a communal sense of belonging, engagement, where you can innovate, and create within an authentic group who will make a tangible difference for the community. He is all about "weaving indigenous knowledge and systems together with modern practices for amazing results".
You'll join a warm and welcoming team who value connection and are empowered by Karepa to grow their networks through various avenues from attending hui, conferences, having team away-days, and more. The Mataaho Aronui group inherently believe in their ability to achieve the ambitious deliverables outlined in the Tūpiki Ora Māori Strategy and are thoroughly supported to do so by not only their leader Karepa, but the entire Council.
Mōu ake / You:
Leadership is key for us, and we are looking for someone who can unite a team, provide clarity of role function and purpose, and drive delivery by focusing on developing people capability. Therefore, you will demonstrate the ability to attain outcomes through effective leadership of others.
Engaging stakeholders and developing strong relationships is natural for you, and you will be able to co-ordinate and provide high level strategic advice across the Council, and into cross directorate initiatives to support our organisation to respond well to the needs of Māori.
Our organisation is complex; therefore, you will possess the ability to effectively assimilate our diverse business unit objectives, and partner with them ensuring that Māori perspectives and needs are integrated into the Council's operations and decision-making processes, ultimately contributing to the well-being and success of Māori communities in Pōneke.
