He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:
We’re looking for a Trainee Track Worker to join our Taihape maintenance team. This is an entry-level opportunity for someone who enjoys physical, hands-on work and is ready to start a rewarding career in rail.
You’ll work alongside experienced colleagues to maintain and renew the rail network infrastructure. You’ll gain skills through on-job training and build your competence with support every step of the way.
What you’ll do:
- Carry out maintenance and repair work on train tracks and related infrastructure
- Use tools and light mechanical equipment safely (we’ll train you)
- Work outdoors in all weather, as part of a supportive, safety-focused team
- Be available to work Monday to Friday from 7.30am
- Occasionally support projects across the country

You’ll be someone who takes pride in a job well done, works well in a team, and wants to learn.
We’re looking for:
- A clean New Zealand Class 1 Driver’s Licence (essential)
- A Class 2 (HT) Licence is a bonus – or we can help you get one if needed
- Physical fitness and willingness to work in outdoor, hands-on environments
- Experience in construction or using mechanical tools (helpful but not essential)
- A strong focus on health and safety
- Good verbal and written communication
- The ability to pass Ministry of Justice, medical, and drug/alcohol checks
