Job Description

Mō te tūranga | About the Role
In this key, Software Engineer role in the Digital Legacy squad - you will  provide technical expertise working on ensuring our key critical platforms are performing to the best of their ability and able to deliver and maintain great experiences for our customers.
You will work with multiple teams across the business to deliver on new and exciting initiatives aimed at delivering on Westpac New Zealand's strategic priorities. You work will be crucial to ensuring we deliver sustainable solutions that ensure consistently great experiences.

Please note: - This position requires participation in an afterhours on call support roster.

  • Participate in code reviews and provide feedback to team members on code quality and make sure software engineering best practices are met.
  • Actively engage in requirement analysis discussions and come up with technical solutions.
  • Design and develop new product features with minimum defects.
  • Deliver project sprint commitments on time.
  • Participate in Agile software development practices.
  • Create, review, and maintain documentation.
  • Conduct POCs to research and identify the optimal solution.
  • Utilises experience with Jira and Confluence.
  • Promptly respond to production incidents by troubleshooting and providing solutions to them.
  • Perform Application Support activities on a day to day basis - including being in an on-call roster.

  • Back End Java including JPA/Hibernate
  • Legacy systems experience.
  • Micro-service design, specification, and Implementation
  • RESTful API design, specification, and implementation
  • Kubernetes and Docker or similar orchestration and containerization
  • Apache Kafka or similar
  • Ideally you will also have knowledge and experience of:
  • Banking industry processes
  • CI/CD and automation.
  • Security and resilience concerns and patterns
  • Alerting and observation integrations
