He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Council’s Engineering, Assets and Technical Advisory Department has an opportunity for a Senior Coastal Specialist to join the Coastal Management Services team.
This is a critical role for council in leading the management of over 3,200km of diverse coastline. You will focus on providing technical support in the area of of coastal management, science and engineering across the organisation. These include the assessment of coastal processes, coastal hazards and providing subject matter expertise to guide the ongoing and future management of council’s coastal assets.
You could expect to work on:
- develping council’s Shoreline Adaptation Plans
- the delivery of coastal assets renewals, including option development and review of detailed designs
- construction monitoring activities throughout physical works
- supporting the interpretation of coastal hazards and climate change data
- assisting with condition assessments of coastal structures and maintenance recommendations
He kōrero mōu: About you
This role requires experience in the coastal engineering and management space. You have relevant experience in similar roles within large, complex or political organisations.
We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:
- Master’s degree level in Coastal Engineering, Science or similar subject
- demonstrated post-graduate work experience in coastal engineering, coastal hazard management and coastal construction works
- excellent knowledge and applied experience working with New Zealand’s coastline and legislative framework
- strong understanding of coastal engineering design standards and specifications
- full drivers licence

This role has a remuneration range of $110,000 to $136,000.
Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered.
