The Riddet Institute is a world-best New Zealand Centre of Research Excellence in food and nutritional sciences, providing fundamental scientific understanding and training for a new generation of science leaders. The Institute brings together scientists across disciplines and organisations, providing a “NZ Inc” approach to food science research, and it generates knowledge and capability that transforms the New Zealand food sector.
The Sustainable Nutrition Initiative (SNi®), part of the Riddet Institute, is a dynamic and multi-skilled team committed to transforming evidence-based nutrition research into practical solutions for enhancing global sustainable nutrition. With extensive international experience, our team comprises leading food scientists, nutrition scientists, and mathematical modellers, all working together to drive impactful change.
We have a permanent full-time (37.5 hours per week) opportunity available, appointable at either a Senior Research Officer or Associate Professor level. This position is based at our Manawatū campus in Palmerston North.
This position involves diverse research projects, from modelling the global and national food systems, to individual diets, using their skills to connect diverse data sets to achieve a holistic view of sustainable nutrition.
As the successful candidate you will have:
- A strong background in leadership, computational modelling, data science, food and nutrition, and scientific communication.
- A PhD in mathematics, statistics, data science, nutrition, food, engineering, or agriculture.
- A background of high-quality research plans and outputs.
- Demonstrated expertise in modelling and nutrition datasets.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, research leadership and project management.
- The motivation and enthusiasm to work with an interdisciplinary team.
- Effective collaboration and problem solving.
- Experience with R and the building of R shiny applications would be advantageous.
Salary will be aligned with Senior Research Officer/Associate Professor range, commensurate with skills and experience.
Senior Research Officer: $101,724 - $143,948 (2024 range)
Associate Professor: $132,424 - $157,025 (2024 range)
