About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga
We have an exciting opportunity available for a veterinarian to play an important part in the New Zealand public sector, where you will issue export certificates for animal products to facilitate trade from New Zealand to overseas countries.
The purpose of this role within New Zealand Food Safety, Verification Services, is to undertake activities in line with current legislation and organisational requirements, thereby permitting the issue of official assurances. This maintains New Zealand's integrity as a trading partner and MPI's reputation as a competent authority.
Verification Services (VS) within NZ Food Safety, core purpose is to deliver independent, cost effective and high-quality verification, certification, inspection, and clearance programmes that ensure all relevant regulatory requirements are met. Our people deliver a world-class, efficient, and cost-effective service to a broad range of animal product industries and sectors and facilitate not only food safety, but biosecurity and market access for animals and animal product exports.
This is an office-based role at MPI Centre Christchurch, working Monday to Friday between 8.00am – 5.00pm typically, with a small amount of weekend on call on a roster shared amongst the team.
This is a varied role, where you will be expected to:
- Issue official assurances in the form of electronic health certificates and issue eligibility documents for exporters and RMP business operators.
- Keep up to date on Overseas Market Access Requirements (OMAR) notifications.
- Ensure that official assurances issued are valid and will withstand third party audit.
- Accept accountability for decisions and actions taken in discharging the legal powers and duties as specified in the Animal Products Act.
- Recognise shared workloads, ensure efficient use of hours and resources through managing self and workload within agreed parameters.
About You - Mōu
We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate strong judgement and decision-making skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of specialists and external operators.
This role would suit a veterinarian looking for a change from clinical practice, or a veterinarian verifier/certifier looking to broaden their experience in an office-based position.
The successful candidate will:
- Be a New Zealand registered Veterinarian with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand
- Have verbal and written skills, and analytical reasoning skills
- Demonstrate integrity and trust, ethics and values, resilience, adaptability, and openness
- Have experience persuading and influencing, teamwork, planning, and organising
- Have computer literacy – can operate standard and customised software to an acceptable standard including word-processing, excel, internet, email
About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū
Reporting to the Team Leader Certification, this role will work in a team of 4 veterinarians who are based at the Christchurch office and responsible for issuing export certificates for operators based across New Zealand.
The team work autonomously, but are close-knit and constantly sharing knowledge, expertise, queries and support. This team works closely with the wider national Certification Team which includes 12 Verteriary Certifiers, Certification Audit Advisers, Specialist Adviser and Administration Coordinators.
