It also operates ‘engagement’ services such as support for student organisations, social and sporting events, volunteering and leadership support that are aimed at helping students to maximise the non-classroom dimensions of the university experience.
Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
We are seeking a Sports Coordinator to play a key role in the wellbeing of our students at Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland.
In this role, you will be responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of inter-residential sports tournaments and student sports events. This includes managing registrations, scheduling, venues, health and safety, officials, and prize-giving, while ensuring a high-quality experience for participants. You will also work with internal and external partners and support university teams competing in national inter-tertiary tournaments.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Managing all aspects of tournament and event delivery, including logistics and marketing.
- Collaborating with internal and external partners to ensure successful outcomes.
- Supporting university teams with travel, budgeting, and compliance with University policies.
- Maintaining clear communication and delivering a high standard of service.
- This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent position.
- The role requires some evening and weekend work.
Remuneration is $62,000 - $77,800 depending on skills and experience.

About you | He kōrero mōu
Our ideal candidate will have:
- A bachelor’s degree or a relevant tertiary qualification
- Relevant experience and knowledge of sport and recreation programming, delivery and sport event management
- Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills.
- Enthusiasm and passion for the sport and recreation industry.
Preferred:
- Refereeing, coaching or team management skills
- Sports delivery experience in the Tertiary sector preferred
- Outstanding communication skills and pride yourself on delivering the highest level of service to our students.
