Job Description

Are you a tech-savvy problem-solver ready to keep NZME’s print production humming? Join our vibrant team and take charge of the systems that bring our publications to life!

THE OPPORTUNITY:
Step into the world of NZME as a Systems Engineer, where you’ll support, maintain, and enhance the print publishing systems that prepare content, ads, and layouts and manage production processes for our iconic publications. You’ll ensure rock-solid stability and optimise workflows, and if the opportunity arises and it makes sense, you’ll help us transition systems to the cloud—bringing your ideas and suggestions to the table. You’ll collaborate with a passionate team at New Zealand’s leading integrated media company, tackling challenges to keep our print operations running smoothly. This is your chance to shine!

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Keep print publishing systems stable with proactive patch management and upgrades in a Windows Server environment.
  • Configure integrations between systems handling content, ads, layouts, and production processes, escalating issues to specialists as needed.
  • Monitor and optimise performance using logs and metrics for seamless print workflows.
  • Maintain secure, compliant print operations with strong cybersecurity standards.
  • Troubleshoot and fix system issues using Windows Server tools, network diagnostics, and PowerShell scripting.
  • Manage service desk incidents within SLAs, log detailed resolutions, provide Tier 2/3 support, and join the on-call rotation via task tracking tools.
  • Roll out system changes per NZME’s framework, testing and documenting updates in sprint-based workflows.
  • Boost integrations with PowerShell, Python, and SQL queries for efficient print workflows.
  • Support cloud migration efforts under guidance, streamlining processes with collaborative development practices.
  • Explore cloud technologies to enhance system resilience and scalability, contributing to agile innovation.
  • Team up with Technology and Print crews in meetings to align on content, ads, layouts, and production.
  • Share your print system know-how to lift team skills within agile knowledge-sharing practices.
  • Update documentation with detailed notes post-changes, keeping knowledge bases current via shared tools.
  • Communicate system status and solutions clearly to stakeholders, pinpointing support resources as needed.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Systems Engineer role or a similar position managing technical systems and integrations.
  • Quick to master complex print publishing systems and their integrations for workflow optimisation.
  • Hands-on experience with systems managing content, layouts, and print production in a Windows Server setup, including patch management and monitoring in agile environments.
  • Skilled in PowerShell and Python for automation, with SQL query chops for system analysis.
  • Solid grasp of FTP protocols and basic networking (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS) to troubleshoot connectivity in print workflows.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (preferred) to support system migrations with iterative methods.
  • Knowledge of incident and change management in Windows-based print workflows, with an eye for issues needing specialist escalation.
  • Awareness of cybersecurity and compliance standards for print systems.
  • Proven ability to document print processes and log detailed tickets in task management systems.
  • Bonus points for database admin skills (e.g., SQL Server maintenance).
  • Problem-solver with a proactive streak, collaborative spirit, and adaptability to evolving tech trends in an agile team.
