Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Nau mai, haere mai ki a koutou katoa! Waipapa Taumata Rau (UoA) are looking for their next Kairuruku Matua Wheako Tauira in our Student Experience centre. In this role, you will be pivotal in creating a mana-enhancing experience for all our tauira by upholding the guiding Te Ao Māori principles of manaakitanga, whanaungatanga and kaitiakitanga.
This role specifically focuses on tauira Māori and on providing a high level of customer experience throughout the student journey. The role will work collaboratively across the Student Experience Centre, provide vital insights and trends on current student topics and issues and advise on cohort-specific projects or campaigns. Additionally, the role will provide oversight of campaigns, activations or issues and, where appropriate, have influence over processes/functions and content concerning Te Ao Māori and te reo Māori.
Key areas of focus will be:
- Supporting the recruitment and retention of Tauira Māori through provision of advice, guidance and support
- Student Administration
- Programme and Course Advice
- Learning and support advice
- Careers support and advice
- Influence the priority outlined in Taumata Teitei to activate Te Ao Māori principles of Manaakitanga, Whanaungatanga and Kaitiakitanga across the team’s practices.
This is a full-time, 37.5 hours per week, on a permanent contract. The salary range for this role is $63,000 - $77,800 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.

Our suitable candidate will meet the requirements below:
Essential:
- Mātauranga Māori.
- 2 - 4 years’ delivering high quality customer service.
- Min 1 year working in a call centre environment.
- Experience of working with and understanding the needs of a diverse range of clients.
- Experience of leading process improvement and looking for continuous improvement opportunities
- A commitment to te reo me ōna tikanga Māori and ability to confidently navigate Te Ao Māori.
- Kia Whakamana i te Tangata.
- Strong knowledge of of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in relation to their role.
- Demonstrate Whanaungatanga.
- Ability to navigate and negotiate online systems.
- Demonstrated ability in active listening and Manaakitanga.
- A good standard of oral and written communication skills.
- Acknowledging, maintaining and restoring the mana and tapu of individuals, whānau and communities.
