Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity

Downer holds three (3) Facilities Maintenance and Management Services Contracts with the New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF). This role is based at our RNZAF Ohakea site where you will be responsible for providing technical support and maintenance for Building Management Systems (BMS) in an industrial setting. It is a hands-on role that supports our teams who work on plant monitored and controlled by the Building Management System.

Key responsibilities of the role are:

  • Maintain and repair the control systems of the BMS throughout the site as determined by the manufactures.
  • Ensuring the efficient operation and troubleshooting of BMS.
  • Provide feedback on operational challenges and suggest improvements based on hands-on experience.
  • Working in collaboration and support the NZ Defence Estate Instructure Team undertaking work at Ohakea as directed.


This role requires regular interface with the client, contractors and internal Downer personnel. This role is based at the Ohakea Airforce Base however it is a versatile role in nature, with the requirement to support the overall delivery of Downer’s maintenance contracts and associated tasks.

Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills

  • New Zealand Certificate in Electrical Engineering Theory and Practice (Trade) (Level 4), and registration with the Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB).
  • Minimum 3-5 years’ current experience within the industry, ideally in a maintenance role.
  • Good understanding of Building Management Systems (BMS).
  • Ability to confidently use a device or tablet to record work.
  • Motivated, positive and outcome orientated.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with stakeholders, team members, and clients.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and handle competing priorities.
  • Ability to address challenges and create innovative solutions quickly.
  • Ownership, commitment and an ability to meet deadlines.
  • A current full driver’s license.
