Permanent Position | Keeper (Birds)

As a Bird Keeper at Auckland Zoo, you will play a crucial role in the daily care, management, and welfare of our diverse bird species, while also contributing to conservation efforts both within the zoo and in the field. You will help create and maintain innovative aviaries and habitats, deliver exceptional visitor experiences, and share key conservation messages about birds with the public.

This role reports to the Team Leader(s) Birds. You’ll be working on a variable roster system including some weekend days and public holidays.

He kōrero mōu: About you
We are looking for a team player with at least two years of experience in bird-keeping or a related field, a relevant qualification in biological or conservation sciences, and a strong passion for avian welfare.

This position requires physical fitness, outdoor work in all weather conditions, and a strong passion for avian welfare.

To guide you further you will have:

  • Current full New Zealand Driver’s License (manual gearshift preferred).
  • Proven ability to work and contribute effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in animal husbandry and the zoo industry, appropriate to competency level.

The salary range for this position is from $62,807.68 to $72,841.60 based on skillset and experience.
