The Council’s primary purpose is to protect public health and safety in New Zealand, by registering and overseeing doctors, as well as establishing standards for the practice of medicine and ensuring compliance with those standards.

Mō te tūranga, mōu hoki | About the role and who we are looking for;

We are looking for a talented individual to become a crucial asset in their Registration team. This team works alongside doctors, medical colleges, recruiters, and employers and their responsibility is to register doctors who trained in New Zealand and overseas. This role is a chance to enhance your expertise in various domains, deepen your understanding of the health sector, and actively contribute to fostering trust among New Zealanders in the integrity of our medical workforce.

We are looking for an individual with strong case management experience, exceptional proficiency in both written and verbal communication, impeccable organizational and planning skills and the ability to handle diverse tasks.

The main responsibilities of this role include:

• Assessing applications for registration and practising certificates – handling queries from applicants, analysing risk, securing advice, and making written recommendations in accordance with criteria policy.
• Maintaining and updating the medical register and issuing practising certificates.
• Monitoring doctors who are practising under supervision.
• Organising assessments of overseas trained specialist doctors.
• Giving stakeholders advice about Council’s registration processes and assisting with the development of registration policy and procedures.

Ngā āhuatanga angitu | To be successful in the role you will need to;

• Possess a tertiary qualification or relevant experience.
• Have proven experience in case management.
• Exhibit strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret information with exceptional attention to detail.
• Embrace the role of a team player and contributeing to the teams’ shared goals.
• Have sound Word processing abilities and experience with customer/stakeholder management systems.
• Have excellent interpersonal skills.
• Exhibit a high level of organisational skills and be able to effectively manage workloads to meet deadlines.
• Uphold quality service standards and showcase a commitment to continuous improvement.
• (Experience working within a legislative framework is desirable but not essential)
