He angitūtanga: The opportunity
The Contamination, Air and Noise team is part of the Specialist Unit in the Resource Consents Department. This multidisciplinary team provides specialist advice on a wide range of development projects, from earthworks and housing additions to major subdivisions and nationally significant infrastructure projects. We cover the entire Auckland region and are passionate about preventing and minimising environmental and health effects whilst promoting sustainable development in a fast-growing city. The team is based in the CBD but offers flexible working arrangements, including working from home.

As a Technical Officer, you will:

  • Respond to contaminated site queries
  • Lead the maintenance and update of Auckland Councils contaminated land database
  • Collaborate with a wide range of customers across the region
  • Assess and provide specialist technical input to our resource consenting, environmental monitoring, compliance and building teams.

You are competent in problem solving and finding innovative solutions to technical issues or problems. The ability to effectively communicate complex concepts to a wide range of audiences is critical as you will be regularly liaising with internal and external customers. You will have excellent time management and project management skills. You are flexible and open to change, including new ways of doing things.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • A tertiary qualification in science, environmental science, resource management, environmental health or equivalent
  • 1 - 3 years' experience in a relevant role – exceptional graduates considered. Local government or similar regulatory experience an advantage.
  • Awareness of the Resource Management Act and relevant local and national standards and policies.
  • A current driver’s licence.
