The opportunity
Learn to Swim Instructor | West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre
Here at Auckland Council, our leisure centres play a key role in achieving our goal of making Auckland the most active city in the world. And right now, we’re looking for Learn to Swim Instructors to join our Pool and Leisure Centre team at West Wave to help achieve that goal!
This is a fantastic job where you don’t need any formal qualifications or experience to apply – just a passion to work with our diverse community while also making a difference! We'll provide the training you need to succeed in the role.
Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Teaching people the basic principles of how to swim (we'll teach you how to do this!)
- Maintaining a fun, caring and safe environment for customers and visitors
- Being part of an amazing team serving your local community
We have four permanent part-time varies from 12 hours available at our centre. You will need to be available as follows:
- Monday -3.15-7.30
- Tuesday 3.15-7.30
- Saturday 8.45-1.15
He kōrero mōu: About you
You will be a great swimmer and instructor, have a love of water, have exceptional customer service skills, and be able to communicate well with members of the public.
Previous experience working with children would be beneficial.
If you do have a recognised swim teacher qualification or previous experience as a Swimming Instructor, that’d be fantastic. However, we will provide full, comprehensive training that you need to excel in the job.
To be considered for this role, you must also be willing to complete First Aid training.
Our Successful candidate will be comfortable in the water and be able to:
- Swim 20 metres freestyle
- 20 metres backstroke
- Tread water for 3 minutes
