Smyth Transport are a small family-owned transport business that specialises primarily in the transport of kiwifruit and are involved in the chain of transport from the orchards to the export wharf, and everything in between.

We're on the lookout for Casual Class 5 Operators for the upcoming kiwifruit harvest period, March - June. There is potential for ongoing work for the right person.

We are looking for some Operators to slot into our existing team hauling kiwifruit bins from the orchards to the packhouses and are also looking for a couple of experienced drivers capable of operating our 50max units carting export pallets for kiwifruit from the packhouses to the Port of Tauranga.

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Understand instructions and arrive on time to the yard.
• Complete daily prestart vehicle checks and report issues/defects using our reporting system.
• Ensure logbook is completed as per the law.
• Operate the truck in a safe manner, respectful of other road users, the truck, and all personnel on the sites.
• Keep the truck clean and tidy inside and out using the provided facilities.
• Represent the company and the name on the door well.
• Ensure the truck is loaded as per the load plan in the truck, and it is secured appropriately. Training will be provided.
• Paperwork filled out correctly and clearly throughout the day.

This opportunity could suit someone who is semi-retired or someone at the start of their Class 5 career who is looking to gain more experience within a supportive team.

About you:

• Hold a current Class 5 drivers licence
• Confident reversing a truck and trailer and operating in tight areas
• Enjoys working in a fast paced environment
• Good level of physical fitness as this is a physically demanding role
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Willing to help the team as needed
• Can do attitude.

Please note: Harvest work is heavily weather dependant, so flexibility and understanding are required. The Port work is according to the shipping schedule but is mostly 7 days and can generally keep running despite the weather. The approximate working hours will be a 0600 - 0900 start to 1800 - 2200 finish.
