Kia mahi ngātahi mō Pōneke mō tōna āpōpō | Working together for Wellington's future.

Pōneke is on a journey of transformational change, responding to many of the challenges cities around the world are facing, while delivering an inclusive, sustainable, and creative capital for people to live, work and play.

Wellington City Council is on track to deliver the most ambitious capital works programme our city has ever seen. The Infrastructure & Delivery group is central to much of this mahi.

The HUP2 Programme is a critical initiative that focuses on delivering upgrades to approximately 220 social housing properties over the next 10 years. This programme is aimed at improving the quality and sustainability of housing for tenants and to help us with this important mahi, we are looking to add a dedicated and experienced individual to take on the role of Rehousing Lead to guide and support our team in delivering successful outcomes as part of the Housing Upgrade Programme (HUP2). This position plays a key role in ensuring the timely and efficient rehousing and relocation of tenants within the HUP2 portfolio.

As the Rehousing Lead, you will lead the HUP2 Rehousing project while engaging with key stakeholders such as Te Toi Mahana. Your leadership will help to foster a positive and collaborative team environment, and you will be the primary conduit for communication between WCC and Te Toi Mahana to ensure smooth rehousing operations.

This role requires a proactive individual with a focus on maintaining strong relationships with various stakeholders, as well as ensuring the welfare and safety of tenants while overseeing a wide range of stakeholders such as Te Toi Mahana, tenants, and community groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Rehousing team to ensure the timely and efficient relocation of tenants within the HUP2 programme.
  • Establish and maintain a positive team environment, ensuring strong communication and collaboration.
  • Work closely with the Housing Capital Works team to ensure rehousing activities align with ongoing capital upgrade projects.
  • Work closely with various stakeholders, including community housing providers, tenancy managers, and maintenance services, to support tenant welfare and successful tenancy sustainment.
  • Provide leadership in managing and addressing complex tenant needs, prioritising their welfare throughout the rehousing process.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in leading and managing teams, preferably in a housing, social services, or community-based environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple organisations.
  • Experience working with tenants who have complex needs, and a commitment to improving the quality of housing.
  • Knowledge of capital works projects and the dynamics between housing providers and councils.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage a variety of challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and build positive working relationships.
  • 10+ years experience in a similar role with a tertiary qualification in Project Management or Property Management is desired.
