About Us

Ngā Tamariki Puāwai o Tāmaki | Auckland Kindergarten Association (AKA) has been a cornerstone of early childhood education in Aotearoa since 1908. With 108 kindergartens and four KiNZ centres, our mission is to provide high-quality, inclusive learning environments where tamariki thrive.

Grounded in Te Whāriki, our bicultural approach ensures whānau, tamariki, and their cultural identities are central to our work. We foster safe, enriching spaces for young learners to develop confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.

Our team is passionate, skilled, and dedicated to delivering a high-quality learning program, guided by Te Whāriki. We use research-based practices that strengthen learning dispositions, working theories, and skills, with play at the heart of our philosophy. The Learning Stories framework is key to our approach, reflecting the richness of the curriculum and the unique learning journeys of tamariki.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a dedicated, full-time Qualified and Registered ECE Kaiako to join our team on a permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to a high-quality learning environment while being part of a supportive, fun, and professional team.

  • Have a strong understanding of Te Whāriki and play-based learning
  • Uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and foster a bicultural curriculum
  • Apply the Learning Stories philosophy in practice
  • Have a solid grasp of dispositional teaching and learning
  • Write meaningful Learning Stories that reflect and analyse tamariki learning
  • Support tamariki in leading their learning and developing agency
  • Be a reflective, committed team player who values inquiry and evaluation
  • Engage warmly with whānau and the wider community
  • Commit to equity, inclusion, and celebrating diversity
  • Embrace risk-taking and challenge, using growth mindset language to support children's development
  • Remain calm under pressure, demonstrate initiative, and bring a positive attitude
  • Contribute a sense of humour to the team
