  • Nurture young learners in a sustainability-focused environment
  • Permanent part-time opportunity - 20 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

About Us

Ngā Tamariki Puāwai o Tāmaki | Auckland Kindergarten Association (AKA) has been shaping the future of early childhood education in Aotearoa since 1908. With 108 kindergartens and four KiNZ centres, we are proud to provide exceptional learning environments that empower tamariki to grow and thrive. Our kindergartens celebrate biculturalism, diversity, and community partnership, ensuring every child's learning journey is enriched with meaningful experiences.

About Ferndale Kindergarten

Nestled in the beautiful park-like grounds of Ferndale House in Mount Albert, Ferndale Kindergarten offers a unique, nature-rich learning environment. As an Enviroschool, sustainability is woven into everything we do, fostering a deep respect for Papatūānuku and empowering tamariki to become kaitiaki (guardians) of the environment.

We believe in collaboration and strong whānau partnerships, creating a welcoming space where Tamariki, whānau, and kaiako learn together. Our approach is play-based, inquiry-driven, and responsive to each child's interests, ensuring tamariki develop confidence, curiosity, and a love for lifelong learning.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a qualified and passionate ECE Kaiako to join our team on a part-time basis (20 hours per week, Monday to Friday). This role is designed to support our busy periods, contributing to a high-quality learning experience for tamariki.

As part of our supportive and engaged Kaiako team, you will bring enthusiasm, creativity, and a commitment to bicultural practice. You will play an integral role in fostering a nurturing, inclusive, and inspiring environment where tamariki feel valued, heard, and empowered to explore their world.

What We Are Looking For

We welcome applications from kaiako who:

  • Are fully qualified, registered, and hold a current practising certificate
  • Are team players who bring energy, positivity, and a collaborative spirit
  • Have a deep understanding of play-based learning and its impact on child development
  • Are passionate about bicultural practice, demonstrating a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Value and celebrate the multicultural diversity of our tamariki, whānau, and hapori
  • Have strong planning, assessment, and documentation skills
  • Are comfortable integrating ICT and digital tools to enhance learning experiences
  • Enjoy working directly with tamariki, getting hands-on and embracing creativity
  • Are committed to environmental sustainability and weave eco-conscious practices into teaching and learning

Why Join Us?

  • Be part of a supportive, fun, and passionate teaching team
  • Work in a stunning natural setting with strong hapori (community) connections
  • Make a meaningful impact on young learners in a bilingual, inclusive environment
  • Enjoy professional development opportunities and ongoing learning support
