Jonel Hydraulics Ltd is a specialist Hydraulic Shop. We have been in business over 40 years. JHL specialises in hydraulic cylinder reconditioning and re-manufacturing, pump, motor, valve repairs. We also have a tool hire division which covers a range of heavy lifting and hydraulic torque tools.

In late 2023, we acquired Gino Hydraulics Ltd as a subsidiary business. GHL specialises in the manufacturing and servicing of ground support equipment for the airports and airlines. Our Team has over 150 years of combined experience and we are keen to add to our portfolio with your experience and expertise.

Our Christchurch team is seeking an experienced and passionate Mechanical Engineering Technician to join their supportive team.

To be considered for this role, you must hold a Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Certificate in Plant Maintenance to the equivalent of an ANZSCO Level 4 or higher.

You will also need to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in a similar role, demonstrating technical proficiency.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with relevant tools and equipment.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites as needed.


As a Mechanical Engineering Technician, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the effective and efficient functioning of various technical products and systems.

Your responsibilities will involve the following:

Installation and Commissioning:

  • Install and set up technical systems or products at client sites.
  • Ensure proper configuration and functionality during the installation process.
  • Provide training to end-users on the usage and maintenance of the installed systems.


Maintenance and Repairs:

  • Conduct regular maintenance checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues promptly.
  • Perform repairs or replacements of faulty components.


Technical Support:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for customers regarding technical issues.
  • Provide remote or on-site support to resolve customer queries and concerns.
  • Collaborate with other teams to escalate and resolve complex technical issues.


Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of service activities, including installation, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Generate service reports for clients and internal use.
  • Document procedures and guidelines for future reference.


Customer Relations:

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients.
  • Gather feedback from customers to improve product performance and service quality.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by addressing concerns in a timely and effective manner.


Continuous Improvement:

  • Provide feedback to the development team for product improvement based on customer experiences.
  • Contribute to the development of new service protocols and procedures.


This is a Full Time position (minimum 40 hours per week) based in Christchurch. An hourly rate of $30-$40 per hour will be offered to the successful candidate, aligned with experience.
