As a Healthy Waters Specialist sitting in our Stormwater Quality team, you will be at the forefront of understanding and addressing water quality issues across the Auckland Region. Your expertise will help identify opportunities for improvements, ensuring a sustainable future for our coastal and freshwater environments.

In this role, you’ll provide expert evidence, advice, and technical input into policy, strategy, planning, regulatory, and infrastructure decisions. Your work will directly influence the management of stormwater quality, benefiting both the community and the environment.

Some key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and use process-based water quality models and tools to assess stormwater management techniques.
  • Analyse and manage large datasets to improve water quality for human and ecosystem health.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives within the team.
  • Plan, procure, and manage the Stormwater Quality work programme with consultants, contractors, and internal resources.
  • Develop and improve scientific methods to understand and predict the impacts of urban development and climate change on water quality and evaluate cost-effective management strategies.

He kōrero mōu: About you
You are a proficient expert in Water Quality Science with a strong foundation in water quality and hydrological modelling.

Your technical skills extend to process-based modelling, machine learning, big data management, and the use of GIS and FME workbench. You excel in building excellent customer rapport and have outstanding communication skills, making you an effective collaborator within a range of Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience and across the business.

Additionally, you demonstrate effective leadership in project management, driving successful outcomes and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

We will be looking for specific experience with:

  • Minimum- BSc. in Water Quality/Limnology/Environmental Geochemistry or science.
  • 2+ years relevant work experience in water quality (Freshwater/Coastal) modelling
  • Writing reports covering a range of technically complex issues.
