Kia mahi ngātahi mō Pōneke mō tōna āpōpō | Working together for Wellington's future.
We're Working for Wellington. Wellington City Council's team provides more than 400 services every day for Wellingtonians - everything from parks and pools to consents and cemeteries - playing our part in making Pōneke an inclusive, sustainable, and creative capital for people to live, work and play.

Wellington City Council's People & Culture team is well underway in our vision of working in partnership across Council to create a high performing, safe, happy and healthy workplace for all, enabling our people to deliver high-quality services to our communities.

To help us further enable our kaimahi, we are looking for a forward-thinking Business Analyst to support the transformation of our payroll system. This is an exciting opportunity to help drive change in a people-focused, dynamic environment where your work will have a direct, positive impact on our kaimahi and the services we deliver to the public.

The payroll system upgrade is a key part of our broader commitment to modernizing our internal service offering and ensuring that our staff experience a seamless, efficient, and transparent system. This project is about more than just technology - it's about improving the experience for the people who help keep our community thriving.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a diverse and fast-paced environment and has a passion for deep-diving into insights and improving business processes.

Āu ake mahi | What you'll do
As the Business Analyst of our payroll system transformation, you will play an essential role in the Project by supporting the Project Manager and working with various departments to understand current payroll processes and help develop a system that meets the needs of both our kaimahi and organisational needs. You'll help ensure the system is efficient, accurate, and fit for purpose.

The ideal candidate will have experience in business analysis, a strong understanding of local or central sector payroll systems, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments.

You will be an integral part of the project from start to finish, ensuring a smooth transition to the new payroll system and delivering insights and analytics that supports both our people and our organisation's growth.

  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including HR, Finance, and IT (Smart council) departments, to gather and document current processes and future business requirements for the new payroll system.
  • Analyse existing payroll processes, identifying inefficiencies, compliance gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead workshops and meetings to gather input and feedback from end-users.
  • Support testing activities, including creating test plans, conducting UAT (User Acceptance Testing), and ensuring the system meets all organisational requirements.
  • Develop training materials and assist with user training to ensure smooth adoption of the new system.
  • Track project progress and provide regular updates to the Project Manager and other senior management/stakeholders on timelines, risks, and issues.
  • Assist with post-implementation support, monitoring system performance and addressing any issues that arise.
