Job Description

Far North District Council is seeking a dedicated and innovative Resource Planner to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in shaping the future of our district by developing and implementing resource management plans that balance environmental, social, and economic needs.
Te Wero – The Challenge
As a Resource Planner you will oversee and execute the Council’s statutory duties and responsibilities, ensuring compliance with the Resource Management Act, Local Government Act, Reserves Act, and other relevant legislation or standards related to planning and resource management. This includes managing resource consents, facilitating sustainable development, and ensuring that all activities align with legal and regulatory frameworks to promote the well-being of the community and the environment.
I ā koe - About You
We’re seeking a candidate with:
- A tertiary qualification in Resource Management Planning or a related field
- At least two years of experience in Local Government or a similar organisation
- Membership or eligibility for the New Zealand Planning Institute
- Experience in processing resource consents, with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Excellent written and oral communication abilities
- Strong risk management skills
- Conflict resolution capabilities
- Open-mindedness and persuasiveness
- A valid driver’s license
- A commitment to achieving the best outcomes for our community
- A progressive mindset focused on continual improvement
- The ability to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships

- The salary for this position is Grade 15 within Council's salary structure (Band: $78,936 to $92,866 pro rata per annum) dependent on qualifications and experience, plus Kiwi Saver.
