He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role:
As Asset Strategy and Risk Specialist, you’ll be a key part of our Asset Management Group, shaping KiwiRail’s asset strategy and risk management approach. Your expertise will help us ensure that our infrastructure is fit for purpose, resilient, and aligned with our long-term goals.
You'll work closely with business units across KiwiRail to develop asset strategies, risk frameworks, and decision-making tools that enhance the reliability and performance of our assets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and embedding KiwiRail’s enterprise-wide asset management strategy and frameworks
- Providing expert guidance on strategic asset management plans (SAMPs) and risk management strategies
- Supporting the development of asset risk models, criticality assessments, and asset health frameworks
- Ensuring alignment with corporate risk frameworks and contributing to asset-related decision-making
- Driving a culture of proactive asset management across the organisation

We’re looking for someone with a passion for strategic asset management and risk mitigation.
You’ll have:
- 5-10 years’ experience in asset management and risk strategy within a large infrastructure environment
- Strong understanding of best practice asset and risk management processes
- The ability to build relationships and influence across multiple stakeholders
- A proactive mindset, with the drive to create meaningful change
- Project management experience and strong analytical skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, MS Project) and asset management systems
- A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Asset Management, or a related field
