- Casual Youth Worker role available at our Real Service in Nelson.
If you like working with taiohi (young person) primarily awake nights, with other shifts available. May include work in adult services as needed.

Role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
We provide mental health support to young people in a home-like environment, helping them build life skills, confidence, and resilience. Youth House is a beautiful home that can house up to 4 youth. We have a great vibe in the house and connect around the great kitchen/dining communal space, there is also an abundance of activities for youth to engage in: pool table, ping pong, sewing, biking or the more relaxed sensory room.
As a casual youth worker you will be covering a range of shifts as needed when permanent staff are not able to work. In particular, we are looking for people to cover the awake night shift. You will also need to be prepared to work across our Nelson Pathways adult services as required.
- Awake night shift working 11.00pm-7.30am
- AM Shift working 7.00am-3.30am
- PM Shift working 3.00pm-11.30pm
About You | Mōu
In this role you will need:
- Hold a National Certificate in Mental Health and Addiction Support Work (level 4), National Certificate in Youth Work, Level 4 certificate in Health and Wellbeing, a health qualification or above tertiary qualification
- Experience in working with young people and an understanding of trauma-informed care
- Be experienced or comfortable with group facilitation
- Passionate about supporting young people to build confidence, and resilience
- Both de-escalation skills and relationship building skills
- A current full New Zealand driver’s licence
- A current New Zealand first aid certificate or be prepared to obtain one
- Knowledge of, and demonstrable commitment to, the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi
