Job Description

Mō te tūnga | About the role

This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a psychologist to join He Aranga Ake, New Zealand’s violent extremism disengagement framework. He Aranga Ake is a multi-agency framework designed to support the disengagement of people who may pose a violent extremist threat to our communities due to identifying with an ideology or other violent extremist belief system.

You will work collaboratively with framework participants, their family/whānau, schools, participating He Aranga Ake agencies, and local communities to inform, develop, and implement comprehensive holistic wraparound plans. You will be a key advisor within the He Aranga Ake National Coordination Group that is responsible for the operational delivery of interventions.

You will provide expert psychological advice to the He Aranga Ake Operations Manager and other key agency representatives, to inform intervention activities while also assessing the progress of interventions against long term goals.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Deliver assessments and recommendations, backed by clinical reasoning and/or structured professional judgement, to inform operational practice.
  • Provide ongoing, individualised, and dynamic psychological assessment and intervention options.
  • Lead and support the development of individualised intervention plans for He Aranga Ake participants
  • Ensure the delivery of participant intervention plans in a timely manner
  • Be part of a continuous improvement cycle ensuring He Aranga Ake’s methodologies align with international best practice (where applicable)
  • Contribute to the design of measurement tools that support evaluations of the efficacy, safety, and validity of approaches.

  • Ability to think logically, have a key eye for detail, and proven ability to interpret and critically evaluate information to determine appropriate advice.
  • The ability to contribute your specialist skills within multi-agency, trans-disciplinary settings where the framework participant is central to everything you do.
  • Provide ongoing, individualised, and dynamic psychological assessments and interventions.
  • The ability to prioritise competing demands, balancing the requirement to work both independently and collaboratively as part of the wider team.
