He angitūtanga: The opportunity
At Eke Panuku, our mission is to create amazing places. We do this by breathing life into our town centres and public spaces—places that support thriving communities, reflect local identity, and feel vibrant and welcoming.
We’re on the lookout for someone who thrives in creative, people-focused work, and who is ready to help shape the next chapter of placemaking in Northcote and Takapuna.
As a Principal Strategic Placemaker, you’ll be part of a passionate and collaborative team working on some of Auckland’s most exciting regeneration projects. You'll lead and deliver a place programme—activations, events, and partnerships—that reflect the character of each location and make meaningful contributions to local life.
Please note: This is a Fixed Term Full-Time role through to 26th May 2026.
Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Leading and delivering a year-round calendar of place-based events, activations and partnerships in Northcote and Takapuna
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with local creatives, businesses, community groups, and mana whenua
- Collaborating with project teams and designers to ensure placemaking activities support wider regeneration plans
- Coordinating logistics, budgets, and suppliers to ensure high-quality, timely delivery
- Gathering insights from community engagement to inform future activities and measure impact

You might have a background in the arts, events, urban design, or community engagement—and you're known for bringing people together to create memorable experiences in public spaces. You’re comfortable planning a programme, liaising with creative partners, and keeping everything humming behind the scenes, from delivery to reporting.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has hands-on experience delivering activations or creative programming in public spaces
- Understands how to work with communities and reflect local stories and aspirations
- Can confidently coordinate projects and collaborate with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Is curious, creative, and organised
- Ideally has worked in or around local government, or in regeneration, urban development, placemaking or creative sector projects
- Brings an understanding of Te Ao Māori and values mana whenua relationships
