Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters and Flood Resilience department has an opportunity for a Senior Healthy Waters Specialist within the Wai Ora Rural Partnerships team.
As a Senior Healthy Waters Specialist, your role will be to increase awareness and understanding of flooding and water quality issues in Auckland’s rural landscape, in partnership with iwi, community, and industry.
You will also provide capacity building support to iwi, community groups and organisations to enable and encourage community led responses to flooding and water quality issues.
Day-to-day you can expect to work on:
- Delivering regional grant programs to accelerate restorative works related to water quality and flood resiliency in Auckland.
- Providing technical support to the Wai Ora Rural Partnerships team, iwi, landowners, community groups and organisations around flood resilience and water quality.
- Delivering projects, that meet Council requirements, including being within budget, meeting timeframes and obtaining quality results or assets that deliver the intended benefit.

He kōrero mōu: About you
For this position you will need to have at least 7 years’ work experience in a related relevant technical area, including primary industry, rural community engagement and project initiation and delivery, riparian restoration, freshwater ecosystems and stakeholder management.
You’ll also have a Bachelor’s degree in water quality or related field including primary industry, or environmental science. (A relevant post-graduate qualification – post graduate diploma, masters, doctorate or equivalent postgraduate experience or similar qualification will also be acceptable).
It’s crucial you have an understanding of local authority functions and experience in community engagement, and substantial stakeholder management experience.
