The role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
The role is on our awake night shift working Thursday to Saturday, 11pm – 7.30am, based in a beautiful homestead in Christchurch.

You’ll need to have your own journey of lived experience with mental health to become a Peer Support Specialist in our Peer Acute Alternative Service. Our service is an alternative to hospital admission and is supported by a total of 24 staff members across the various shift patterns.

In this role you’ll be:

  • Focusing on the individuals needs and providing culturally safe practice
  • Relevant administrative tasks, comprehensive notes and effective handover, and supporting and collaborating with your colleagues
  • Support people with independent daily living skills. You’ll need to be prepared to support our clients to do whatever it takes
  • While the people you support are asleep, you will be kept busy with other tasks like cleaning and supporting the day shifts with maintaining things like filing, first aid kits, emergency kits and preparation of paperwork.


About You | Mōu
As well as your own personal experience of mental health services you’ll have completed peer training and the level 4 certificate in Health and Wellbeing (or equivalent). Your lived experience is valued in this role and used to enhance the way we support people in a recovery focused way, including utilizing your recovery tools for the people we support on their recovery journey. You’ll be supported in your own career pathways as a peer, to grow peer leadership. This role also requires you to be able to provide medication support for our people and have impeccable attention to detail.

You’ll also have:

  • New Zealand Certificate Level 4 in Health and Wellbeing (or a recognised equivalent).
  • You’ll have Intentional Peer Support training (IPS) or Peer Employment Training (PET) Certificate or be willing to study towards one.
  • You will have completed WRAP training
  • Period of wellness of 18 months before applying
  • A full New Zealand drivers licence
  • You must hold a current comprehensive first aid certificate or be willing to obtain one.
