Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Enabling Communities and Investment business unit is responsible for engaging with partners and communities to co-design new and innovative partnership services with iwi, Māori organisations, NGOs and other partners. This business unit also ensures the voices of tamariki, rangatahi and whānau are heard. These voices influence strategy, policy, practice, and operations across the organisation, so that their needs and aspirations are met to help break the cycle of tamariki involvement in the system of state care and intervention.

The Voices team is responsible for actively listening to the voices of the community and partnering for successful outcomes. The Pacific team is focused on representing the perspectives of Pasifika people and executing the Oranga Tamariki Pacific strategy.

The purpose of this Senior Advisor, Pacific position is to work directly with the Manager Pacific to provide high quality advice to the organisation aligned to the Oranga Tamariki Pasifika Strategy, the Oranga Tamariki strategy and organisation transformation. The Senior Advisor Pacific has responsibility for supporting the Manager Pacific to ensure the Ministry's strategic direction, delivery, core outcomes and key impacts for Pacific children, young people and families are achieved.

Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring

Key requirements of the role include:

  • Strong strategic thinking, operating and influencing skills with an ability to provide direction and advice to support social services policy
  • Demonstrated experience delivering programmes of work with particular experience in the design, planning and/or delivery of effective social services for Pacific children, young people and their families
  • Strong networks and connections into Pacific communities, someone who is seen as a trusted advisor and can engage with external communities and partners
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to engage with intergenerational Pacific audiences
  • Good analytical skills, an innovative thinker and problem solver who can analyse trends across data
  • Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices, in particular, knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' cultures.

The successful applicants will be well-connected and currently embedded in Pacific communities.

With two Senior Advisor Pacific roles available, it is expected that one will have a lead role in supporting voices of Pacific communities to be heard in Oranga Tamariki, including supporting the Oranga Tamariki Pacific Panel, and one will play a significant role in supporting delivery of the Oranga Tamariki Pacific Strategy.
