About the opportunity | Mō tēnei tūranga
Te Awamutu site is the sixth largest producer of dairy ingredients in New Zealand and the main buttermilk producer in Waikato region. During peak season, the site produces 3 million litres of raw milk, 1 million litres of cream & 750,000 litres of buttermilk every day.
Each year 90,000 tonnes of milk powder is produced at the site, filling enough bags to span the length of New Zealand three times. The site has transitioned away from coal to be powered on wood pellets reducing the Co-op’s national coal consumption by 10%, saving more than 84,000 tonnes of carbon emissions per year – the same as taking 32,000 cars off the road!
Reporting to the Health & Safety Manager Upper Waikato, you will get the opportunity to develop your health & safety career with plenty of variety and challenges.
As the H&S Business Partner, you will build trusted relationships with stakeholders and coach on best practice health and safety. You will play a key role in supporting the site to deliver on its vision of ‘Safe Work, Thriving People.’
Other key tasks include:
- Partner with stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement and make recommendations to ensure best practice H&S standards.
- Understand the business environment to anticipate safety issues and associated risks and provide practical solutions.
- Coach and lead quality learning reviews with shared learnings and corrective actions to enhance systems and processes aimed at enabling successful work.
- Support sites permit to work improvement and use.
- Carry out trend analysis for the site and undertake site assessments.
- Ensure the H&S management systems are up to date and regulatory changes are adhered to.
About you | Mōu
You will not only have knowledge in health and safety but will also know how to guide and influence staff based on best practice health and safety standards. A passionate relationship-builder, your stakeholder relationship skills will be second to none, and your natural resilience and ability to manage expectations proactively will see you go far in this role.
To make an impact in this role you will have:
- Strong technical health and safety expertise ideally from a manufacturing or high-risk environment.
- Exposure to process safety.
- Ability to instil trust across a diverse workforce and establish meaningful relationships with stakeholders.
- Preferably hold a relevant health and safety certificate or diploma (NEBOSH or equivalent).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment plus being adaptable to change and ambiguity.
- Exposure to hazardous substances management and legislation is desirable.
- Exposure in hazardous risk assessments and HS event plans.
