- This role is .5 FTE Hospital Liaison and a .5 FTE Practice Leader - Permanent, full-time position
- Based at our Invercargill Site
- Competitive salary ranging from $111,020 to $133,696, dependent on experience
Mō te tūnga | About the role
The purpose of this role is to provide a pro-active approach to managing cases of child abuse and non-accidental injury and reflects our commitment to ensuring interagency responses to protecting our children and young people.
The purpose of the role is to strengthen our response to children who are admitted to or involved with health service through our Hospital. The role's primary objective is to lead and influence practice to ensure Oranga Tamariki/DHB processes and planning are robust in accordance with our MOU. Responsibilities involve attending multi - disciplinary meetings, providing a link between DHB and Oranga Tamariki, and working collaboratively with health professionals and police to ensure an appropriate response to children.
This role offers a more strategic focus to managing high risk cases and provide the opportunity for sharing information to ensure continuous improvement and a level of consistency across the country
The Practice Leader role will be operating in a way that ensures all practice expectations and standards are maintained by Social Worker staff and include partnering colleagues where appropriate.
We are a site which is continually looking for innovative ways to shape our practice and provide opportunities for growth and learning. We are looking for a practice extraordinaire to champion social work practice across the site. You will coach, develop, mentor and supervise social work staff to help our tamariki, rangatahi and whānau.
To be considered for this role, you will need to bring a strong leadership quality. You will also be required to have a high standard of Social Work practice and credibility within the Social Work and/or health sector. You will need to have substantial experience in working and building strategic relationships with our stakeholders.
Note: In this role you will spend 20 hours per week performing duties in the Practice Lead role and 20 hours per week performing duties in in the Hospital Liaison role

Key requirements of the role include:
- A full registration with New Zealand's Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB)
- A relevant tertiary qualification in social work is
- Good critical thinking skills and the ability to gather information and make good evidence-based decisions.
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
- A full, clean, current driver's licence
- Experience in and demonstrated ability in managing complex practice and casework and influence to improve practice
- Demonstrated ability to work in collaborative peer and other stakeholder relationships
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation and experience of what Oranga Tamariki does and how we work
- Understanding and appreciation of cross cultural issues and concerns, in particular, knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
- Demonstrates the ability to maintain a work environment which people find supportive and stimulating; keeps the team focused on the desired outcomes
- Empathy, patience and ability to see past what someone may be struggling with
- The ability to manage risk and make tough decisions
- Ability to communicate complex ideas to a variety of audiences and build and maintain rapport with others
