About the team
The Public Health Team is a regulatory unit of the Wellington City Council. We process applications for food and alcohol premises, register dogs, and conduct inspections to ensure public health and safety. This means that no two days are the same due to the sheer variety of inquiries and jobs that comes our way. The team is supported by their leader to create a collaborative and supportive environment where individuality is a strength and people are empowered to show this in their way of working every day.
About the role
In this role you will work with food businesses in Wellington to ensure that the food they produce is safe and suitable for their customers. You will spend your time visiting businesses to review their registration applications, verify their operations, and ensure compliance with the relevant bylaws and legislation.
You will get exposure to the food industry, create some great networks. It is a great role where you'll be given autonomy for the allocated work, as well as the opportunity to work with and learn from a skilled team.
The nature of our work requires our verifiers to occasionally respond to events during the weekend and primarily during event seasons (Feb - April). Officers are also on-call every 6-8 weeks for one week at a time - this involves responding to events outside of normal working hours during the week you are on call, during which you receive an additional allowance. There are flexible working opportunities available, such as working from home.
We are looking to appoint between $85,645 - $100,758 per annum, depending on skills and experience.
All applicants must have the right to work in New Zealand. Applicants must hold the relevant qualification indicated above, as well as a NZ drivers' licence (ideally full but restricted will be considered).
We're Working for Wellington. Wellington City Council's team provides more than 400 services every day for Wellingtonians - everything from parks and pools to consents and cemeteries - playing our part in making Pōneke the creative capital where people and nature thrive.
Working for the Council offers you a range of benefits including 5 weeks annual leave, flexible working options, health and wellbeing support, Council staff discounts and a range of learning and development programmes and opportunities.
