About the Role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial planning. This role requires a motivated individual with a strong financial background who can lead a high-performing finance team while contributing to the overall strategic direction of the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent leadership to support and encourage high team performance.
  • Ensure financial processes, compliance, and reporting are accurate and timely.
  • Deliver financial analysis, data, and reports to support business operations and investment decisions.
  • Forecast and manage cash flow effectively.
  • Oversee supplier payments, payroll, and accounts receivable/debtor collection processes.
  • Ensure data and system integrity while driving continuous improvement.
  • Maintain high personal and professional standards as a representative of BestStart.
  • Evaluate operational effectiveness and recommend strategic changes as needed.


About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven financial and commercial acumen.
  • Experience in building strong relationships across all levels of an organisation and with key stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to negotiate positive outcomes.
  • Demonstrated leadership and coaching abilities, fostering understanding and team growth.
  • A degree in Commerce and/or Finance, with practical experience in a senior financial role.
  • CA, CPA, or equivalent professional qualifications.
  • Extensive experience in a senior financial management position.
  • Deep knowledge of business systems, commercial and contractual arrangements, finance and funding, accounting systems, and taxation.
  • Proven ability to build successful teams and lead others effectively.
  • A track record of driving change and continuous improvement.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to delegate effectively.
  • A results-driven mindset with the ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
  • A self-motivated and innovative approach, thinking beyond traditional boundaries.
  • Experience in the education sector is an advantage.
