Westpac New Zealand’s (WNZL) Risk function is on an exciting journey and Enterprise & Operational Risk is playing a major role in continuing our best-in-class capability. We are looking for a Manager Specialised Risks, with a particular focus on Risk Culture and People Management Risk to play a key role in driving a more mature risk management practice.
Mō te tūranga | About the Role
This is a great opportunity for you to join the Enterprise & Operational Risk team, the change engine for risk management at WNZL. No two days are the same with this role, so if you are looking for variety and flexibility to shape your role, this is it!
You will:
- Own the Risk Culture and People Management Risk Classes, from a Second Line perspective, including ownership of policy documents, controls, Key Risk Indicators and risk assessments.
- Work closely with Risk Culture colleagues across WNZL and WBC to undertake a consistent and comprehensive approach to Risk Culture assessment and action plans across the Bank.
- Provide oversight and challenge to Line 1 on their risk management practices.
- Provide critical insights, analysis and reporting to the Executive Leadership Team and Board to support their role in overseeing the maturity uplift of Risk Culture and a range of other risks.
- Build strategic alliances with HR to align the role of risk culture and wider organisational culture.
- Act as the Line 2 Risk Business Partner for HR.
- Support the Senior Manager, Operational and Specialised Risk with delivery of other high priority risk uplift initiatives, across Operational and Specialised Risk classes.

- Strong Risk management experience in the First and/or Second line of defence (minimum 3 years, preferably 5+ years)
- Tertiary education or longstanding Industry Certification
- Demonstrable experience of directly influencing senior stakeholders, strategic thinking, and prioritisation
- Demonstrable ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across the Business.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, liaising with all levels of the Business.
- Strong organisational, problem solving and communication skills.
