Auckland Council is pleased to have an opportunity to welcome a new director to the Haumaru board in 2025.
Haumaru is a joint venture between the Auckland Council and Selwyn Foundation which provides safe and affordable housing to older Aucklanders.
Auckland Council seeks a new director to oversee and guide Haumaru in line with the direction given by shareholders to deliver the best possible outcomes for the housing portfolio and Haumaru’s clients.

You will act with personal integrity and moral leadership with wise and thorough decision-making. Board members are accountable and responsive to the direction set by shareholders.
Directors are expected to act with a public service ethos and passion for Auckland, have a commitment to collaborate across the council group, to demonstrate financial accountability and drive a focus on value for money at board level. Directors will have an understanding of te ao Māori and will drive improved outcomes for Māori.
We are looking for people with deep experience in the following areas:
• Experience in the delivery of residential development at scale
• Investor mind-set to balance opportunity and risk, taking a long-term view
• Proven ability to partner with government and other stakeholders within the sector
• Social / community housing governance expertise

O Mātou Kōrero: About Us
Haumaru is a registered Community Housing Provider, it provides tenancy and asset management services for Council’s portfolio of 1,475 rental units for senior citizens. The units are located in 62 villages across South, North and West Auckland.
Haumaru was established in 2016 as a joint venture between Auckland Council and the Selwyn Foundation to achieve the following outcomes:
• to improve the housing stock and tenancy management over time, ensuring they were fit for purpose.
• to access the income related rent subsidy provided by central government. (This subsidy is not available to local authorities).
• to utilise the expertise which Selwyn could bring to supporting older people.
• to grow the number of units of social housing for older people.
