We’re looking for a Senior Quality Specialist/ Food Technologist to join our Woolworths New Zealand Food Company and Own brand team here in Aotearoa reporting to our Head of Product Innovation and Technology.
Joining our Food company and Fresh food team you’ll take accountability for ensuring the products we place on our shelves exceed our customer expectations on quality.

About the Role | Mō te Tūranga
Join us to promote our brand through best in class quality; safe and responsible products that build trust with our customers while working in key collaboration across our product development teams, category managers, suppliers and other stakeholders.

You will be responsible for:

  • You will deliver Our Brand products in accordance with the Woolworths NZ NPD framework, WWNZ and Product Differentiation strategy; brand guidelines and corporate social responsibility commitments
  • Working closely with suppliers to ensure successful scaling up from kitchen to factory.
  • Creation, agreement and ensuring adherence of Quality Attribute Sheets (QAS).
  • Being the Subject Matter Expert in the Fresh food department that provides guidance for innovative delivery of the process technology function.
  • You will provide the subject matter expertise and technical capability for the business, ensuring sound guidance across quality, food technology and emerging trends
  • Reviewing and approving all artwork and labelling checks.
  • You will enjoy keeping up to date in this fast changing industry and always be one step ahead.
  • Respond to Our Brand Quality specific customer queries and complaints and liaising with suppliers around investigations, root cause analysis and ensure appropriate preventative actions are put in place


About You | Mōu
We’re looking for an ambitious and creative Food Technologist who is customer focused and has the ability to navigate through ambiguity and problem solving-someone with a solution focussed mindset.
The leveraging of your market industry knowledge, exceptional understanding of food technology and manufacturing processes will be paramount to the success in translating concepts into innovative products on the shelf. You will be a results focused individual who operates with an efficient work style, coupled with attention to detail, excellent communication skills and the ability to work to short deadlines. You will enjoy working within a busy; fast paced work environment with a number of internal and external stakeholders on a day to day basis.

To be successful in this role, your experience will likely reflect:

  • An enthusiastic food Technologist with a proven track record of successfully scaling up and delivering products from concept and through to launch.
  • An exceptional understanding and knowledge of food Technology; trends; ingredients and seasonality in order to influence and deliver to the business direction.
  • Brimming with ideas and inspiration you will have experience in bringing products to market in order to truly delight our customers.
  • An in-depth knowledge of food manufacturing and production processes.
  • Tertiary Food qualification, min 3 year diploma, degree of similar in food industry (food science/technology or related industry).
  • Minimum 5 years experience in Food Technology or experience in a relevant discipline within a complex/matrix environment.
  • A love, passion and infectious enthusiasm for food, innovation and product.
  • Strong understanding of product creation; componentry and cost makeup of goods
  • Sensory evaluation and product benchmarking skills. .
  • Solid organisational, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to proactively identify risks and overcome obstacles.
  • Ability to leverage and manage effective stakeholder relationships
  • A passion and enjoyment for products and people. Working with food; product and people day to day.
