ASB is looking for an experienced Risk & Compliance Manager on a 12-Month fixed term to join our team and provide leadership, guidance, and practical support across the business to help us manage risk effectively and ensure compliance with our robust frameworks.

In this role, you'll be working closely with Leadership from the Financial Services & Strategy and People divisions to provide actionable insights, manage risk profiles, and ensure timely reporting.

You will also play a critical part in mentoring team members, promoting a unified and cohesive culture, and driving significant risk uplift initiatives across the bank.

Mo te tūranga | About the role:

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver sustainable risk management outcomes by promoting effective risk management principles and practices.
  • Provide insightful advice and practical support to divisions, enabling them to deliver better, sooner, and safer.
  • Produce timely and insightful reports to support the Divisional Leadership Teams in managing risk and identifying early warning signals of heightened risks.
  • Administer divisional risk profiles and manage them within ASB's risk management applications.
  • Mentor and guide other team members and stakeholders, fostering a culture of cohesiveness and unity.
  • Collaborate with business owners to continuously improve risk controls and mitigate key risks.
  • Help business owners assess risk impacts from changes, and facilitate workshops to identify and address control weaknesses.
  • Lead significant risk uplift activities, ensuring that risk processes are continuously enhanced and embedded.

  • 5+ years of experience in financial services or a similarly complex industry.
  • A solid understanding of operational risk and compliance frameworks, processes, and regulations.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to turn data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to influence and collaborate with senior leaders.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to quickly identify and resolve issues.
  • An inclusive and collaborative approach to leadership, with a focus on mentoring and team cohesion.
