He whakamārama mō te tūranga mahi | About the role

As Product Owner Lead – Digital Infrastructure, you will play a pivotal role in shaping KiwiRail’s digital infrastructure strategy. You’ll lead a team of Product Owners, ensuring our digital products deliver real value to the business and our customers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Setting the vision and strategy for KiwiRail’s digital infrastructure product portfolio.
  • Leading and mentoring a high-performing team of Product Owners.
  • Driving collaboration between technology teams, infrastructure teams, and senior stakeholders.
  • Establishing best practices for product management and agile delivery.
  • Championing innovation and continuous improvement in digital solutions.


This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll balance strategic oversight with operational execution, ensuring our technology solutions align with KiwiRail’s long-term goals.

We’re looking for a forward-thinking leader who can drive digital transformation and inspire their team. You’ll bring:

  • Leadership experience – Proven ability to lead and mentor product teams.
  • Product management expertise – 10+ years in product management, agile delivery, or related fields.
  • Technical knowledge – Experience in construction or infrastructure technologies (desirable but not essential), software development, or related technology fields.
  • Stakeholder engagement – Strong communication skills to align business and technology teams.
  • Strategic mindset – Ability to define a clear product vision and drive execution.
  • Innovation focus – Passion for leveraging technology to improve business outcomes.


A tertiary qualification in computer science, software engineering, business management, or a related field is preferred.
