Position Overview
The Riddet Institute is a world-best research centre in food and nutritional sciences, providing fundamental scientific understanding and training for a new generation of science leaders. The Institute integrates partner organisations (Massey University (host), Auckland and Otago Universities, AgResearch and Plant & Food Research) and disciplines, leading a “NZ Inc” approach to food research, and generates knowledge and capability that transforms the New Zealand food industry.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Fellow. This full-time (37.5 hours per week) position is fixed term for 14 months.

This Postdoctoral Fellowship will be based largely at the Fonterra Research and Development Centre, Palmerston North, but will spend substantive time at the Riddet Institute at our Manawatū campus to ensure interaction with the Riddet Institute’s research community. The project will contribute to Fonterra’s Complementary Nutrition Programme and is funded by Fonterra Ltd.

The work will be centred on undertaking research on the physico-chemical properties of new food ingredients including proteins and fats/oils produced from plants and via technologies such as precision fermentation, mammalian cell cultures and microbial farming (or plant engineering). The project is focused on developing an understanding of the full potential for these ingredients and technologies to be used in dairy food systems.

The successful candidate will have:

• A PhD in Food Technology, Food Science, Food-related Chemistry or Physics.
• A strong commitment to develop in this research programme.
• Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Salary will be aligned with Postdoctoral Fellow range, $81,172 - $97,988 (2024 range), commensurate with skills and experience.
