Job Description

We are looking for an Inspections Officer to join our Building Compliance and Consents team here at Wellington City Council.

You will be joining a tight knit inspections team that has a great culture. The role is engaging, and you'll be challenged with a variety of work. You'll meet new people every day and build relationships with homeowners and building professionals, all to ensure our buildings are built to code. Your responsibilities will include;

  • Getting on the road daily to assist with and carry out building inspections throughout Wellington
  • Investigating complaints
  • Reviewing work prior to issue of code compliance certificates
  • Working with Team Leaders and Seniors to carry out priority tasks
  • Compiling and maintaining accurate records of all activities
  • Embedded within the City Consenting and Compliance (CCC) unit, the Building Compliance and Consents team help shape Wellington's skyline through involvement with all building projects and developments in Wellington City. We support the Wellington community with building compliance as it grows places to work, live and play. Working with homeowners, designers, consultants, builders and other industry leaders, this is a place where things are happening - and there's never been a busier time in the building industry than now. We're always making changes to the way we serve our customers by improving the way we work together as a team.

About You
To be successful, you will have significant construction industry experience within New Zealand. Bring your strong understanding of how building sites work and be a motivated team player to ensure we deliver excellent and on-time services to our customers. You'll thrive on working in a fast paced, results focussed environment, but what will really set you apart is your strong interpersonal and relationship management skills. Preferably you will hold a qualification as required by regulation 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006 (the Regulations) or commitment to enter into and obtain a qualification to meet this requirement. A relevant qualification preferably in building construction, and relevant work experience will be a must.

We are looking to appoint between $85,645 - $100,758 per annum, for this role, depending on relevant skills and experience.

We're Working for Wellington. Wellington City Council's team provides more than 400 services every day for Wellingtonians - everything from parks and pools to consents and cemeteries - playing our part in making Pōneke an inclusive, sustainable and creative capital for people to live, work and play
