Job Description
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Sustainability Manager to join the Downer Transport team. This role is a part-time position 20 hours per week based at our Penrose depot.

Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity
Reporting to the Contract Manager, you will be responsible for providing sustainability leadership across our suite of Auckland Transport Maintenance contracts. Your responsibilities will include:
- Targeting zero waste following the waste hierarchy through waste minimisation, circular economy solutions and/or recycling/re-use maximisation,
- Reduction in contribution to greenhouse gas emissions production, through both operations and materials,
- Provide energy savings through a reduction in contribution to greenhouse gas emissions production,
- Reduction in water consumption during maintenance activities,
- Improving the livelihoods of people from targeted groups throughout employment, training and wage improvements,
- Increasing access for diverse suppliers (including Māori and Pasifika owned businesses).
- Providing technical advice to projects and the long-term maintenance contracts across Federal / State approvals and licences.
- Reviewing and providing advice on environmental monitoring programs and results.
- Undertake site travel and support as required
- Develop and maintain Environmental Management Plan, Recycled First Plan initiatives and
Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills
- Tertiary Qualifications (Degree) in Environmental Science/ Engineering/ Energy / Management, Sustainability or similar
- Minimum 2-3 years environmental management experience. Experience in road construction and/or a maintenance environment will be highly regarded
- Ability to use MS Excel and other applications to analyse and communicate data
- Ability to understand and learn new software applications quickly.
- Current Drivers licence
- Collaborative team player with strong communication skills, both verbally and written with all levels of an organisation
- High attention to detail and analytical skills
- Effective planning, time management and organisational skills
