Job Description
Our client, a well-known sports organisation, is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their team. This role reports to the organisation’s Head of Legal and offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic organisation, with a primary focus on reviewing and drafting contracts, assisting with employment related matters, and policy drafting. Key Responsibilities
As a Legal Counsel, your role will be pivotal in providing comprehensive legal support across the organisation. You will be responsible for:
- reviewing, drafting, and negotiating contracts from various departments, ensuring they align with organisational goals and comply with legal standards;
- providing guidance on disciplinary matters, employee claims, and benefits inquiries as well as legal opinions on employment agreements;
- providing internal legal advice for clients and management, addressing day-to-day legal inquiries and issues;
- enhancing contract processes and compliance through collaboration with the procurement team;
- drafting, reviewing and assessing legal documentation together with the Head of Legal;
- managing litigation with external counsel;
- remaining updated on all legislation affecting the organisation and ensure relevant departments are informed of new or proposed legislation.
To be successful in the role you should have:
The ideal candidate for the Legal Counsel position brings:
- LLB and a valid NZLS practising certificate;
- +2 PQE, experience in Sports Law and/or Employment Law is valuable;
- Strong understanding of regulations and legislation impacting operations;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
- Attention to detail and thorough in the drafting, review and assessment legal documents, including legal reporting.
