Job Description
Position Overview
Students are at the heart of everything we do. We are seeking a positive and energetic Maintenance Assistant to join the Accommodation Services team and help build the residential communities at the Massey Manawatū Halls.
In the role of Maintenance Assistant, you will provide and deliver outstanding levels of customer service to our residential communities. The position is permanent and full-time.
Salary range for this position is $48,036 to $63,375 based on skills and experience.
This role requires the successful person to juggle competing priorities which requires initiative and a constant eye on improvements. The position is located in our halls in Palmerston North. You will move around the halls of residence daily, as and when required. It is not a desk-bound position. You will be spending time carrying out maintenance tasks, responding to residents’ maintenance requests, inspecting, checking our facilities and the work of contractors and engaging with our resident community.
Our preferred candidate must demonstrate:
- Trade or handy person experience in maintenance, construction, or a similar area
- Experience in a residential or hotel environment, ideally in a university or education environment
- Ability to manage competing priorities and keep an eye on several on-going tasks
- To be a team player and care about the success of those around you
- Experience of working in a customer-centric environment with timely responses to requests
- Intermediate computer skills.

This is a varied role, which at times, can be busy and fast-paced. You will need to be a confident communicator, reliable, have strong organisational skills and be able to work in line with university systems, policies, and procedures.
The employment setting will involve work with people across the lifespan and applicants will be required to comply with the requirements of the Vulnerable Children Act 2014 and the Vulnerable Children (Requirements for Safety Checks of Children’s Workers) Regulations 2015.
