Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Join our team of dedicated lifeguards at our brand new state-of-the-art recreation centre - Hiwa. We are seeking a responsible and alert lifeguard to work part-time (3 half days per week).
As a Lifeguard, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of all patrons using our pool facilities. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain new skills and be part of a team opening a new aquatic facility.
The main responsibilities of the roles include:
- Supervising swimming areas and ensuring the safety of all pool users
- Responding swiftly to emergencies, including performing rescues and administering First Aid/CPR
- Delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining professional communication with patrons
- Enforcing pool rules and promoting a safe environment
- Conducting routine pool water testing and maintaining health & safety standards
- Assisting with the cleanliness and general upkeep of the facility
- Participating in regular training to maintain skills and readiness
This is a part-time (15.5 hours per week), permanent position.
Shifts: Mon 1.30pm -9.30pm, Thurs 7:30am- 11:30am & Sun 10:30am- 2:30pm
Remuneration for this role is $54,405 per annum (pro rata for part time hours).

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for lifeguarding, strong customer service skills, and a dedication to creating a safe, positive and inclusive environment for all university community members.
You will also bring the following skills and experience:
- A current lifeguard qualification
- Valid CPR and First Aid certifications
- Strong swimming ability and a good level of physical fitness
- Excellent observation skills and attention to detail
- The ability to stay calm and make quick decisions in emergency situations
- Effective communication skills
- A customer-focused and professional attitude
- Good knowledge of water safety practices and procedures
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays
If you are not currently PLPC qualified, you must be available to attend training from 5–9 May.
