Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
We have a Senior Advisor Engagement position in our Pest Management Engagement Programmes Team. The Senior Advisor will play a role in the delivery of national pest management programmes, with a focus on supporting the Tiakina Kauri team to lead and work collaboratively together on kauri protection and embed the National Pest Management Plan.
Engagement Programmes takes a role where an engagement, behaviour change, and communications is critical to achieving programme outcomes. These programmes involve a range of partners and stakeholders, including central government agencies, regional councils, mana whenua, industry, NGO's, and community organisations.
You will be leading the delivery of a coordinated engagement and communications work programme. As part of the Engagement Programmes team, you will, from time to time, also be involved in activities within other biosecurity programmes.
This role will suit an individual who has had 5+ years' experience in a senior role with a focus on engagement, communication, and behavior change.
Mōu - About You
You will have experience delivering engagement, communication, and integrated marketing plans that have raised awareness and changed perceptions or behaviours through leading and influencing a range of organisations communications and marketing activities.
We are looking for someone who can draft stakeholder newsletters and web copy through to ministerial memos and best practice guides. You will have the experience and confidence to be adaptable and thrive in a complex and sometimes ambiguous environment. Our ideal candidate is a team player who is resourceful, has initiative, and a proven ability to deliver results. You will be able to think creatively, work under pressure, and prioritise your work. You will bring a high degree of enthusiasm and energy to the role.
The ideal candidate would have:
- The ability to lead, influence, and coordinate a wide range of stakeholders marketing, communications and engagement activities
- A well developed customer service approach and ability to work across teams
- Experience in delivering behaviour change programmes or integrated marketing and communications activity
- Experience in working in partnership programmes
- Strong written communication skills
- An understanding of the complexity of government.
- Experience in managing social media and website channels
- Proven ability to identify and understand stakeholder segments and adapt style, language, and activity that increases their engagement
- Experience in social research to inform and evaluate outcomes
- The ability to identify and take a proactive approach in managing reputational issues, increasing awareness, and programme engagement

The Pest Management directorate forms part of the Biosecurity New Zealand business unit and provides system and operational leadership in activities that prevent, reduce, or eliminate the harmful impacts of pests or diseases that are present in New Zealand.
Engagement Programmes is part of the Pest Management directorate and lead and support partner and stakeholder engagement in a range of post-border areas, including working with Māori, central and local government agencies, industry organisations, and communities.
Our Engagement Programmes team will either work directly alongside an initiative, as part of a wider programme team, or develop and implement specific programmes.
