Job Description

The world is fast changing, and the needs of whānau raising tamariki have changed dramatically in recent years. Our community services provide supplementary support to our clinical teams to support holistic whānau wellness, provide helpful services and supporting stronger community bonds.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Community Services Team Leader to lead our team in the South Island on a permanent part time (4 days a week) basis, providing key leadership in delivering essential community services.

While we have a preference for this role to be based in or near a town centre, we are open to applications from candidates in any South Island location.

This is an opportunity to drive impactful change within a supportive and collaborative environment. You will ensure our programmes and services are meeting the evolving needs of our communities while advocating for service delivery that is locally responsive and nationally consistent, ensuring we meet the needs of our priority communities.

As the Community Services Team Leader, you’ll lead a dynamic team, including Playgroup Coordinators, Home Visitors and volunteers, to deliver critical services such as MOE Certified Playgroups, home visiting, and other community-focused programmes. You will take a strategic view of team performance, and advocate for service delivery that is locally responsive and nationally consistent, ensuring we meet the needs of our priority communities. You’ll also play a key role in risk management, reporting, and fostering relationships with stakeholders across the community sector.

To thrive in this role, you will bring proven leadership experience, with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop a team, alongside a collaborative approach, with excellent communication, relationship-building skills and attention to detail.

You will also be/have:

  • A tertiary qualification (diploma or above) in Community Services, Education or Social Service or strong experience in community services, ideally within the NGO, health, or community sectors.
  • Understanding of volunteering, community development, and the challenges that priority communities face.
  • The ability to manage budgets, lead workplans, and take ownership of results.
  • Cultural competency and the ability to support and advocate for Māori, Pasifika, Asian, and other communities in Aotearoa New Zealand.
