About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga

The Team Manager Readiness Animal is part of our Operational Readiness Group within Biosecurity New Zealand, Diagnostics Readiness & Survelience directorate.

Readiness activities focus on improving MPI's (and stakeholders) overall readiness in order to respond effectively to exotic disease incusions and includes maintaining generic readiness that supports wider systems including biosecurity, food safety, adverse events, animal welfare and trade.

As Team Manager you will work alongside other MPI groups and lead, plan and manage the delivery of Biosecurity New Zealand's (BNZ) overall animal health biosecurity Operational Readiness function to ensure BNZ is able to respond effectively and efficiently to exotic animal disease incusrions. You will lead a team that aims to deliver fit for purpose operational response tools and products which enable BNZ to effectively and efficiently respond to animal biosecurity threats. You will plan, and develop a programme of work to deliver readiness tools, products and implementation approach to benefit MPI animal disease responses and make a difference to the way they work.

You will oversee and participate, where needed, in the development of science-based readiness products including (but not limited) to response operational specifications, threat specific readiness plans, incursion control, and management tools.

About You - Mōu

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Graduate level qualification in a relevant scientific discipline, with priority given to a NZ registered Veterinary degree.
  • Experience delivering readiness plans, work progarmmes and working within biosecurity responses.
  • Successful experience in people leadership, management and building a team.
  • Proven ability to effect change and deal with ambiguity.
  • Proven planning, programme or project management skills across a complex environment

About the Team - Mō tō mātou Rōpū

You will lead a team of up to 4 staff, 3 Senior Advisers and a Principal Adviser who are responsible for developing, leading and managing the implementation of science based readiness products and tools to support the delivery of effective responses in the biosecurity system.
