- Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters& Flood Resilience department has an opportunity for a Specialist within the Safe Networks team.
- This position will work across Safe Networks and Safeswim programmes to serve as the key interface to progress sampling and network and property drainage investigations.
- You will be key to integrating schedules and reporting, auditing sampling staff to ensure protocols are being followed and contributing to ongoing programme improvements.
Day-to-day you could expect to:
- Plan, prioritise, coordinate and manage sampling of the Safeswim programme and manage allocated Safe Networks programme network/ property drainage sampling and investigations.
- Conduct sampling for Safeswim and Safe Networks programmes when needed while following required Health and Safety procedures
- Undertake QA/QC checks for all Safeswim sample laboratory results.
- Prepare reports, information and data summaries for internal and external reporting and for Safeswim and Safe Networks programmes.
- Liaise with Council’s Environmental Health team to make them aware of any sites that may pose public health risks based on results of investigations or information received
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders in the three waters industry including wider teams in Infrastructure & Environmental Service, Community Facilities, Auckland Transport and Watercare Services.

This role requires strong technical understanding of water quality, and the operation of stormwater and wastewater infrastructure in achieving environmental and public health outcomes.
We will be looking for:
- Proficiency of professional environmental science or civil/environmental engineering or related discipline
- Sound understanding of the operation of stormwater and wastewater networks
- Solid understanding of water quality indicators and public health risks
- Full and clean NZ Drivers Licence and is a confident driver
- Confident working in and around water and can swim
- Good teamwork, collaboration, interpersonal and relationship-building skills
