He whakamārama mo te tūranga mahi | About the role:
As the Senior Control Systems Networking Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in designing, delivering, and maintaining KiwiRail’s complex control systems networks. You’ll support projects that upgrade vital rail systems while providing tier 2/3 technical leadership for network operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and delivering network design projects for safety-critical control systems.
  • Providing tier 2/3 support to ensure the resilience and security of our networks.
  • Developing solutions for SIL 2 & SIL 4 safety-rated systems and supporting infrastructure.
  • Mentoring and guiding junior engineers, fostering a high-performing team.
  • Collaborating across teams to solve complex technical challenges

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
Essential:

  • 5+ years of experience in network engineering or administration.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), and network security.
  • Experience with Carrier Ethernet technologies and safety protocols.
  • Sharp troubleshooting skills and experience with monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Wireshark).
  • A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • A commitment to safety, with the ability to work in rail environments.


Desirable:

  • Professional certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNP/CCDP).
  • Experience with VM technologies, scripting, and SCADA networks.
  • Knowledge of Cisco, Ciena, RuggedCom, and FortiGate systems.
